I had to deliver an envelope to a first grader today. I had been instructed to find her and personally place the envelope in her backpack. I had to make sure that I put it in there for her to take home. Apparently if I'd just handed it to the teacher there was a risk that said envelope would remain on the teacher's desk.
So off I went. And with only a minimal amount of trouble, I found the class, I found the student, I found her backpack.
The class was taking a test when I arrived. The room had subdued lighting. Okay, mood lighting, if you will. I guess it put the students in the mood to take the test.
Deed done and I was just about to exit this oh so painfully quiet class... when all of a sudden...
"I Love Lucy and she loves me. We're as happy as two can be. Sometimes we quarrel but then..."
Yep, my phone rang. My phone rang and rang. My phone with the "I Love Lucy" theme song blared throughout this silent classroom.
And I got to thinking... not a single first grader probably even knew what was playing. I'm sure that none of them have ever even heard that song, seen that show or even knew what the '50s were. They certainly will never know TV in black and white.
Aah, kids.
