This was published today so that the kids won't get heat stroke while outside playing:

Heat index: 86
Walk only, if you go outdoors!

Are they serious? It gets hotter than that in my house!!!

The protocol to determine what's too hot or too cold for outdoor recess is this - and please use this guide to determine what are safe, cautionary, and dangerous temps.

If the temp is 32 degrees or below….. NO recess.

If the temp is greater than 32 degrees, but the wind chill is 32 degrees or below….. NO recess.

If the temperature is 98 degrees or greater….. NO recess at your discretion.

If the heat index is 98 degrees or greater….. NO recess.

98? Not quite that hot in my house (well, once when the a/c was on the fritz) but certainly these children have been in 100+ degree heat before! They live in Texas!!

I guess Texans think they live in California...
