Here we go again

Went for a ride last night. Yep, we did.

Two and a half years ago, Rick went a-huntin' for a WalMart. He found Arkansas instead. I chroncled it here... but I was so not laughing.

Last night, Rick did it to me again.

He took himself to a doctor's appointment in Dallas and both Elizabeth and I begged him not to. But them Kahles are a stubborn bunch. The appointment was at 1:30 and Liz was unable to take him - she had to work - and I was at my own work. Rick felt he was invincible and could take himself. Never mind that he's directionally challenged.

So off we all went in different directions... and when Rick wasn't at home when I got home at 4:30, I knew we were in trouble. But I held off on panicking. Been there, done that.

And at 6:00? An expected phone call came.

"Are you lost?" Probably not the best thing to automatically assume, but hey. Again, been there, done that.

Rick answered, "You know me too well."

Terrell, Texas. On the way to Shreveport, Louisiana. I don't even know - or care - how many miles he traveled... or WE traveled to retrieve him. All I know is that we left our home in Frisco, Texas at 6:15... and we arrived back home at 10:00.

I missed American Idol... but I did get dinner... at some little truck stop in what? Mesquite, Texas? I don't know.

Elizabeth kept saying, "I just can't believe it. I can't believe he did it again." I said, "I can. In fact, I've been planning our outing all day. I just knew it was gonna end this way. Again."

Oh, and did Rick make it to the doctor? Yes, amazingly. Proving he can get somewhere, he just can't get himself back home. Go figure.

You don't suppose he planned it all this way? You don't suppose he was running away from home, do you?

Sigh.

Next time? If he heads to Arkansas or Shreveport, Louisiana? I'm headin' to Vegas. My money's on that we'll eventually meet up again... in California probably. Around 2014. Or 2015.

Unless we miss him sooner.
